Who we are as church?

We identify ourselves as 'the church of Christ' to people who ask of us; but, too often, they do not quite understand us by this designation. Very often, they will ask, "But what denomination are you?" And we will invariably reply, "We are non-denominational - neither Protestant nor Catholic - just the church of Christ, the church that Jesus Christ built" (see Matthew 16:18; cf. Ephesians 5:25).

Eschatology, or, the study of the last things or end time events, has often been ripe for much controversy and speculation. Over the years there have been many doomsday predictions and claims on the Second Coming of Christ. Of late, a brand of eschatology, known as realized eschatology (or, A.D. 70 doctrine, or, covenant eschatology) has made some inroads in this part of the world. What is realized eschatology? And how does it compare with biblical eschatology as espoused in the writings of the apostles and the prophets? This series takes a brief look into the subject and tries to present a more biblical approach to this field of end time events, which, more often than is warranted, generates quite some outlandish claims. The Bible is considered a sacred book to Christians; but more than just 'sacred', the Bible is the revelation of God to all humankind.
